Dressed up for the wedding of my friend Emily, at the reception at Cedar Plantation in Acworth, which is about 35 minutes north of Atlanta. Lovely evening celebrating their life together past, present, and future.

It’s that time of year again, moving season. I’ve moved every summer for the last seven years except one. But this one is by far the most exciting yet. Can’t wait to move in and share pictures of the loft. For the next two weeks, it’s packing, organizing, donating, trashing, and lots of heavy lifting.

Went to a Braves game (a night game, whew, so pleasant), since Carl is in town for a few days, with him, Paul, and Ben. Summertime and the livin’ is easy.

I was seriously intrigued by the subway system in New York City, about this enormous piece of human ingenuity and infrastructure that exists below the ground, invisible to Google Maps and any bird’s eye view. I managed to find one book in a tiny little bookstore in the city, focused on the architecture and design of the subway systems throughout its 100-year history. The second I ordered from Amazon, and it was here the day after we got back, written by a historian, covering the history and development of the subway. So great to be able to read for fun!

“I don’t know where I’m going but I’m on my way.”

On one of the postcards, a pack of one hundred, that I got in a Herman Miller store on Wooster Street in SoHo. The postcards are all little gems, pieces of art, and I am having a terrible time deciding which ones to utilize as art in our loft once we move, next week.

Ben and I waiting to get our hands on more of the incredible falafel they make here at Taim, which was recommended in the Not For Tourists Guide to New York City. It was so freaking delicious we went back again today, our last day in the city, to eat it again. Well, New York is for food lovers, for sure.

The High Line is an amazing urban space that the city has converted into a park above the regular roads and sidewalks of the city. It was a beautiful Sunday; New Yorkers were out enjoying the sun, and the popsicle vendors were serving heavenly juicy treat-pops.

Museum of Modern Art, which was exhausting and beautiful and plenty inspiring. A longer post will be on Be The Ink.

(How do you pick just one picture from a whole day of amazing things, on a trip that spans many days and many amazing things? This is hard to do. Be The Ink will have much more.)

Of course one of the coolest things about New York City is the rows upon rows of quirky shops and galleries, and this one–whose emphasis was Chinese contemporary art, in SoHo, where we stayed. If you notice in the picture there, this artist hides himself and sometimes others inside everyday scenes, like the grocery store and in front of buildings.

I am going to post many more pictures to Be The Ink of the graphic New York City that I experienced, because interesting colors, textures, graffiti, billboards, architecture–these are the things that continued to strike me all through our trip there. The images continue to be a source of inspiration to me now; as I look back at the photos I took, the graphic nature of so many things I saw and loved strikes me even more, in total, than they did separately, one by one.
